Call Me Siskel: Movie Reviews (Part 1)
A smattering of my recent film takes: the thoughtful and the dumb (...but mostly dumb).
(If you already follow me on Letterboxd, I apologize for the repeat. And if you don’t? Please do!)

After Yang (2021) Written and Directed by Kogonada.
Visually beautiful film with a captivating and soothing pace. Incredible performances all around. Kind of insane that Colin Farrell's tea shop gets no business… does “being horny” not exist in this future???

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988) Written and Directed by Pedro Almodóvar.
Anyone who doesn’t understand the “drinking gazpacho” to “wielding two tiny guns on the back of a stranger’s motorcycle” pipeline has never been cheated on.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) Directed by George Miller. Written by George Miller, Nico Lathouris.
When you promise revenge, I want REVENGE. Something was off here… definitely not as intense/mind-blowing as everyone hyped it up to be. Chris Hemsworth was hilarious and hot in this though!

Irma Vep (1996) Written and Directed by Olivier Assayas.
New instant obsession just dropped, thanks to the ethereally captivating Maggie Cheung. No one else could make a squeaky latex suit look so chic. The complexity of emotions she conveys with little to no words at all the insensitive micro-aggressions and uncomfortable comments thrown her way in this all while portraying a meta film within a film… Maggie is truly a master of her craft. One of the best needle drops in cinematic history by the way!
