It’s January 6th (never forget1) and I have a lot of thoughts rolling around my brain. In a bad way! When I’m not running around to home goods stores, hauling new furniture and bags of decor from the trunk of my car or failing to hang shelves on the walls of my new apartment, I am numbing myself the best way I know how: dissociation via the internet.
It’s time for another rabbit hole roundup, otherwise known as “things I’ve been watching or obsessing about lately.” Join me – if you dare:
Club Chalamet’s2 Twitter/X live coverage of the Golden Globes (where she conveniently only used photos of Timothee’s table when Kylie Jenner was in the bathroom) and her ongoing one-woman campaign to get Timothee Chalamet an award for his performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. What I wish Ms. Club C. knew was that a young, hot and uber popular actor like Timmy probably isn’t going to get his (deserved) recognition until he’s, say, in his weathered forties and does something like sleep in a bear carcass to prepare for a role. But hey, if this brings her joy, then so be it! (But I don’t think it does…see below.)
Related, Demi Moore seemingly ignoring Kylie Jenner while mingling post-Globes win with Elle Fanning and Timothee (her “congraaaatttssss” is now forever burned into my brain, never to leave).
Charli xcx’s documentary, Alone Together (2021), which I discovered whilst down another rabbit hole that is the fake screenshot of Luigi Mangione’s Letterboxd profile. In short, it made me love and appreciate Charli even more as an artist and was a quick and fascinating watch. Thank you, #LuigiMania, for that find!
Speaking of which, Charli xcx’s Letterboxd profile, which was officially leaked as hers last week. Her reviews are pretty much all must-reads. (And of course, she’s a horror girlie.)
Mikey Madison’s Criterion Closet Picks (no explanation needed except to add that I can’t get enough of her ultra calm, thoughtful and controlled demeanor, which reads to me as a true Acteur who is going to stand the test of time).
Watching the hummingbirds from my living room window (you heard me) and learning through constant googling about them that they must eat once every 10 to 15 minutes (relatable) and visit between 1,000 and 2,000 flowers per day3 (chic!)
I cannot recommend the two Little Womens (1994 and 2019) back-to-back as a cozy (and kinda depressing?) double feature enough! I officially confirmed post-watch that I am a Jo Sun, Meg Moon and Aunt March Rising.
I’m keeping it DARK so far this year, which I guess is why I chose to rewatch Sicario (2015). I was reminded of what an incredible actor Benicio del Toro is and how Denis V reigns supreme as a filmmaker.
And finally:
A YouTube video entitled “Watching the End of the World,” which was prompted by me watching The Big Short4 for the 6th time and being reminded of the (allegedly) inevitable probability of future water wars. Don’t worry – there’s a good reason for this: the end credits updates of The Big Short include the fact that Dr. Michael Burry – an investor who predicted the 2008 collapse of the housing market – now only invests in one commodity: water. What does he know? I hope I never find out…
And with that, I couldn’t think of a better way to end this twisted and dismal post at the start of a fresh, new year! I really hope I exorcised something here…
I never will because my first quarantine birthday was absolutely ruined 2 days after this
If you don’t know who this is, congratulations – you are off the internet the recommended amount of time.
Someone call Nora Ephron cuz these bitches would love a flower shop moment
Sidenote: WHY can I not stop watching/rewatching Christian Bale movies? If anyone has any suggestions/help, please let me know.
I also did a back-to-back Little Women (1994/2019) rewatch over Christmas and it was the highlight of my holiday.
